Terms & Conditions
Last updated: 1 August 2026
These are the terms you agree to when you order from us. We have tried to write them in plain English rather than legal language, because terms nobody can read protect nobody. If anything here is unclear, email us and ask before you order.

1. Who you are buying from
Grá Maps is a small partnership based in Dublin. When these terms say "we" or "us", they mean:
Grá Maps, a general partnership registered in Ireland
Partners: Carlos González and Ruth [full legal surname to be inserted]
Trading address: 12 Springlawn Heights, Dublin 15, Ireland
Email: hello@gramaps.com
Business name registration number: [to be inserted once the CRO certificate issues]
Email is the best and fastest way to reach us. We answer our own messages, usually within a day. We do not operate a shop or showroom at the address above, so please do not call in without arranging it first.
2. How an order becomes a contract
Everything on this site is an invitation for you to place an order, not an offer we are already bound by. A contract between us comes into existence only when we email you to confirm we have accepted your order.
Occasionally we may not be able to accept. That can happen if a drop has sold out, if we have made a pricing error, if the area you have asked for cannot be produced to a standard we are happy with, or if we cannot ship to your country. If we cannot accept your order we will tell you and refund anything you have paid, in full.
Please check your order confirmation when it arrives. If something is wrong, tell us straight away. Once your custom map has been approved and printed, changes are no longer possible.
3. Prices, VAT and payment
Prices are in euro and are shown on the product page and again in your cart before you pay. Shipping is added separately and you always see the exact amount before payment.
VAT. We are not currently registered for VAT in Ireland, so no VAT is charged on your order and our prices are final. If that changes we will say so clearly on the site before it affects any order.
Payment. Payment is taken at the time of ordering through Stripe, who handle the transaction and your card details. We never see or store your card number. Your order is not confirmed until payment has cleared.
Pricing errors. We make our own website, so mistakes happen. If we spot an obvious pricing error before we have accepted your order, we will contact you and give you the choice of paying the correct price or getting a full refund. We will never simply charge you more without asking.
4. Custom maps
A custom map is designed to your specification, so it works differently from a map bought from the collection.
How the process works
- You choose your area, size, frame and any highlights, and you pay up front.
- We design the map and email you a render for approval, normally within 24 to 48 hours.
- You get three rounds of changes included. Beyond that we may quote for extra work.
- Nothing is printed until you tell us the design is right.
- Once you approve, we print and post within 2 to 3 business days.
If you would rather see a design before paying anything, use the free preview option instead. It carries no obligation.
What you are responsible for
You are responsible for the accuracy of what you ask for: the area, the spelling of the title, and any names or text you want on the map. We print what you approve. If you approve a design with a typo in it, we cannot remake it for free.
By submitting text, names or images for a custom map, you confirm that you are entitled to use them and that they do not infringe anyone else's rights.
Work we may decline
We may refuse an order, before or after payment, if it asks for content that is unlawful, hateful, threatening, or that infringes someone else's rights, or if the area requested cannot be produced to a decent standard. If we decline, you get a full refund. We will not keep your money for work we have chosen not to do.
5. Delivery
We post from Dublin with An Post. Costs, typical delivery times and tracking options are set out in full on our Shipping & Returns page, which forms part of these terms.
Delivery estimates are estimates, not guarantees, and they do not include the time it takes us to make your map. Once your map is with An Post, how quickly it moves is outside our control.
Risk in the goods passes to you when the parcel is delivered to the address you gave us. If you chose an untracked service and the parcel is lost in transit, we cannot trace it and cannot replace it free of charge. That is the trade off untracked postage involves, and it is flagged at checkout. If a map matters, choose the tracked option.
We post to the address you enter at checkout. If it is wrong, email us immediately. If the parcel has not gone out we will fix it at no cost. Once posted we cannot recall it, and a reshipment has to be paid for again.
6. Import duties and taxes
If you are ordering from outside the European Union, please read this before you pay.
Your parcel may be charged import duty, tax and a carrier handling fee when it arrives in your country. These charges are set by your own government, not by us. They are not included in the price you pay us, we receive none of the money, and we cannot predict the exact amount. Paying them is your responsibility as the importer.
Customers in the United States: the duty free allowance for low value parcels ended on 29 August 2025. Every parcel entering the US is now assessed for duty regardless of how little it is worth. Goods made in Ireland currently attract a rate of about 15 percent of the value of the goods, and the carrier normally adds its own fee for processing the payment. On a typical map that means roughly 15 to 25 US dollars payable on arrival, before your parcel is released to you.
We declare the true description and the true value of every parcel on its customs form. We will not undervalue a shipment or describe it as a gift to reduce your duty. That is customs fraud, the liability for it is ours, and we will not do it.
If a parcel is refused, unclaimed or returned to us because the import charges were not paid, we will refund the price of the map once it reaches us, but not the original postage or any costs incurred in returning it. For custom maps, which we cannot resell, we cannot offer a refund in this situation. Please make sure you are willing to pay the import charges before ordering from outside the EU.
7. Cancelling your order
Maps from the collection
If you are a consumer in the European Union you have a legal right to cancel within 14 days of receiving your order, without giving any reason. We apply this to all our customers wherever they live, not just those the law covers.
To cancel, tell us within 14 days of delivery by emailing hello@gramaps.com, or by using the form below. Then send the map back in a resaleable condition within 14 days of telling us. We refund the price of the map plus the standard outbound postage within 14 days of the map reaching us, using the payment method you originally used. You pay the cost of return postage, and we would suggest a tracked service, because we can only refund maps that actually arrive back.
Custom maps are excluded, and here is why
The 14 day cancellation right does not apply to goods made to your specification or clearly personalised. A custom map is exactly that: a one off object of a place only you asked for, which we cannot sell to anyone else.
So: you can cancel a custom map and get a full refund at any time before you approve the design. When you approve the design you are asking us to begin making it, and at that point the cancellation right is lost. After approval, a custom map can only be returned if it arrives faulty or differs from what you approved.
This is why we show you the design first, include three rounds of changes, and print nothing until you say yes.
Model cancellation form
You do not have to use this wording, any clear statement will do, but you are entitled to it:
To: Grá Maps, 12 Springlawn Heights, Dublin 15, Ireland, hello@gramaps.com
I hereby give notice that I cancel my contract of sale for the following goods:
Ordered on / received on:
Name of consumer:
Address of consumer:
Signature (only if this form is sent on paper):
Date:
8. If something is faulty
If your map arrives damaged, faulty, or is not what you approved, email hello@gramaps.com with a photo and we will replace it or refund you in full, including the postage you paid. You will never be asked to pay to return a faulty map. This is on us, not you.
Please tell us as soon as you reasonably can, ideally within a few days of delivery, because it helps us work out whether the damage happened in transit. But your legal rights are not limited to any particular window: under Irish and EU consumer law goods must be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality, and those rights last well beyond 14 days. Nothing on this page or anywhere else on this site reduces them.
What we cannot do is treat normal wear, accidental damage after delivery, or damage from heat or misuse as a fault. See the next section.
9. What the product is, and what it is not
Our maps are decorative objects, 3D printed to order in PLA, a plant based plastic, at our workshop in Dublin.
Not for navigation
These maps are made for looking at, not for finding your way. The terrain is vertically exaggerated so the landscape reads well at a small size, detail is simplified, and the underlying data comes from open sources that may be incomplete or out of date. Do not use a Grá Maps product for navigation, route planning, surveying, engineering, emergency planning or any other purpose where positional accuracy matters. We make no warranty that the geographic information shown is accurate, complete or current.
Care, and the one thing that will ruin it
- PLA softens at around 60 degrees Celsius. Do not leave your map in a parked car, on a sunny windowsill, near a radiator or anywhere it can get hot. It will warp, and heat damage is not a manufacturing fault.
- Clean it with a dry or barely damp soft brush or cloth. No solvents, no dishwasher, no soaking.
- Prolonged direct sunlight may fade the colour over time.
Not a toy
Our maps are not toys and are not designed or tested as children's products. Some versions include small raised markers that could come loose. Keep them away from children under three and from anyone who might put parts in their mouth.
Every one is slightly different
These are printed one at a time by two people, not stamped out by a factory. Small variations in colour, layer texture and finish are normal, are part of how the object is made, and are not defects. Photographs on the site are of real maps but screens vary, so the colour you see may not be exactly the colour that arrives.
10. Intellectual property
When you buy a map you own that physical object and can do as you like with it: keep it, hang it, give it away, sell it on secondhand.
What you do not acquire is any right in the underlying design. The 3D models, digital files, product photography, site text and the Grá Maps name and logo remain ours. You may not copy, reproduce, or commercially manufacture our designs, and you may not use our images or name to sell your own products.
For custom maps: you own the physical map, and we keep the design files. We may reuse or display a custom design in our portfolio and on social media unless you ask us not to, which you are free to do at any time by email and we will not ask why.
Our maps are built with map data from OpenStreetMap and other open sources, used under the Open Database License and other open licences. Full credit is on our data sources page.
11. Our responsibility to you
If we fail to meet these terms, we are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of that failure. We are not responsible for loss or damage that is not foreseeable.
Except where the law says otherwise, our total liability in connection with any order is limited to the amount you paid for that order.
We do not exclude or limit our liability in any way where it would be unlawful to do so. That includes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, for defective products under the Liability for Defective Products Act, and for your statutory rights as a consumer.
We are not liable for delays or failures caused by events outside our reasonable control, such as postal strikes, extreme weather, customs delays or equipment failure. If such an event occurs we will contact you as soon as we can, and if the delay is substantial you may cancel and receive a full refund.
We sell to consumers. We are not liable for business losses such as lost profit, lost business or lost opportunity.
12. Complaints, law and disputes
If something has gone wrong, email hello@gramaps.com first. We are two people and we would much rather fix a problem directly than have it escalate. Most things are sorted in a single email.
These terms are governed by the law of Ireland, and the courts of Ireland have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident in another EU country, you also keep the protection of the mandatory consumer law of your own country, and you may bring proceedings there.
Consumers in Ireland can get free advice from the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission. Consumers elsewhere in the EU can contact the European Consumer Centre in their country.
We may update these terms from time to time. The version that applies to your order is the one published when you placed it, and the date at the top of this page tells you when it last changed.
If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.
Nothing on this page takes away statutory rights you have under Irish or EU consumer law.
